Robert Douglas was born as Robert Douglas Finlayson in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire on 9 November 1909. He was a successful stage and film actor, a television director and producer. He was gently mannered with a well modulated speaking voice, who delivered his lines in clipped fashion. He could portray the sinister, conniving rogue as easily as the fortright military officer. After serving in WWII, he came to Hollywood, where he played suave villains in many adventure films, crossing swords with Errol Flynn and Robert Taylor among others. In the late 50's he directed and produced TV shows. He was married three times, including the actress Dorothy Hyson and Suzanne Weldon, fathering two children.
