Louis held an engineering degree from Cornell and was a mathematics instructor for six years before turning to the stage. Wolheim appeared in 10 shows on Broadway including: ‘The Jest,’ ‘The Idle Inn,’ ‘The Hairy Ape’ and ‘What Price Glory.’ His first stage appearance was with Lionel Barrymore who lured him away from teaching to be on the stage. In 1926, Wolheim joined motion pictures and appeared as a character actor in most films. Wolheim died from stomach cancer at Los Angeles' Osteopathic Hospital.
